Pangman’s history

Pangman began life under another name. From April 1909 to August 1910 the local post office was called West Calder, and it stood a little way from where the village sits today. The village is now at Section 16, Township 8, Range 20, west of the Second Meridian, while the old post office was at Section 8.

Pangman incorporated as a village on May 17, 1911. It was named for Peter Pangman, an independent fur trader.

The surrounding countryside was once served by three one-room school districts. Pangman School District No. 98 was formed in 1911, and the area also had Wild Rose School District No. 1876 and Kenneth School District No. 2016.

The village's story is told in two local history books: Pangman and Amulet's Past, and Update 95, a history of the R.M. of Norton No. 69 that also covers Moreland, Khedive, Forward and Amulet. It was published in Pangman by the R.M. of Norton History Committee.
